Would-Be Pasadena Rapist Sentenced For Kidnappings

Two young women managed dramatic escapes to get away from a sex offender, who kidnapped them in Pasadena.

PASADENA, CA — A 41-year-old convicted sex offender, who kidnapped two teens in Pasadena, was sentenced to life in prison Monday.

Anthony Seth McDaniel will not be eligible for parole until 2047 for kidnapping two 18-year-olds at a bus stop in Pasadena and attempting to sexually assault them. Both young woman risked their lives to evade his clutches. One jumped out of his moving truck on a freeway on-ramp while the other victim forced him to crash. McDaniel was a convicted sex-offender at the time of the attacks and was wearing a GPS ankle monitor during the kidnapping.

The victims were waiting at a bus stop at the intersection of Fair Oaks Avenue and Montana Street on April 30, 2016, when McDaniel pulled up in an older-model, extended cab pickup and offered them a ride. Once he had the women trapped, he tried to sexually assault both of them, Deputy District Attorney Fernanda Barreto said.

One of the women injured herself after jumping out of McDaniel's truck on the onramp to the Foothill (210) Freeway in Pasadena. The other woman managed to escape after causing a traffic collision on the Harbor (110) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, Barreto said.

Authorities believe McDaniel, who was arrested less than a week later, was planning to take them to his home in Compton.
