📰 News we're reading

• Newsom vetoes bill to authorize emergency care unit for western Stanislaus County (fresnobee.com) — Patterson's long fight for closer emergency care hit a setback when Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that would have allowed a 24/7 emergency stabilization unit at Del Puerto Health Care District's medical campus in town. Supporters say the carefully regulated facility could shorten 30‑minute ambulance trips to distant hospitals for the city's 25,000-plus residents, and vow to try again next year.

• Michael Barcellos involved in crash on Marshall Road (newsline.com) — A Patterson man driving a Ford pickup towing a livestock trailer was involved in a September 23 crash on Marshall Road near Alfalfa Road that killed a 71-year-old John Deere Gator operator. Investigators say the pickup struck the rear of the Gator, ejecting the older driver, while the Patterson driver was uninjured. CHP continues to investigate as legal experts outline how families often seek independent reviews.

• Third woman accuses Hughson Mayor George Carr of lewd conduct. City faces two lawsuits from his alleged behavior (themodestofocus.org) — Patterson residents should know their mayor, Mike Clauzel, could soon face formal censure after the city's Rules Committee advanced an official reprimand over alleged unethical conduct. The story centers on Hughson Mayor George Carr's separate harassment scandals and lawsuits, then notes Patterson is one of two Stanislaus County cities whose mayors are under scrutiny from their own councils.
