School district plans renovation of Petaluma Junior High courtyard (pressdemocrat.com) — Petaluma Junior High’s 60-year-old courtyard is getting a $1 million summer makeover, adding shade, trees, amphitheater upgrades, and better accessibility for students and staff. Funded by the local Measure C bond, construction starts June 8 and is expected to wrap by July 31, aiming to create a safer, more inviting outdoor hub on the Bantam Way campus.
2. Curbside drains in Petaluma are being painted in new messaging campaign (pressdemocrat.com) — Look down next time you’re walking downtown: Petaluma crews are painting storm drain curbs with warnings that anything on our streets flows untreated straight into the Petaluma River. The new markings, part of a regional “Streets To Creeks” campaign, urge residents to change everyday habits like car washing, pet waste disposal, and handling paints or yard chemicals.
3. UM News Digest - May 11, 2026 (umnews.org) — A new Sacred Ground walking and spirituality app is guiding small groups through nature-focused field trips at Tolay Lake Regional Park near Petaluma, highlighting creation care and Indigenous history. Led by Sonoma County pastor Laurie Bayen, the program currently centers on Northern California sites while planning to expand, inviting locals to deepen their connection with nearby landscapes and faith.
4. Providence Sonoma County names new chief medical officer (pressdemocrat.com) — Patients who rely on Petaluma Valley Hospital will soon see a new regional medical leader overseeing their care network. Providence Sonoma County has named critical care specialist Dr. Sean Townsend as chief medical officer, starting June 1, to guide quality, safety, and patient-centered practices across its hospitals, including Petaluma’s. His background in sepsis care and clinical transformation is expected to shape local hospital standards.
