PETALUMA, CA — A fast-moving house fire broke out in a quiet neighborhood overnight, sending flames and smoke through the front of a two-story house.

The blaze broke out around midnight in the 1800 block of Meadowview Drive. A heavy fire was pushing from the front of the home and threatening nearby properties when a Petaluma Fire Department battalion chief arrived.

Everyone inside had already made it out safely before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported among residents, pets, or emergency personnel, according to the Petaluma Fire Department. Crews remained on scene for several hours to extinguish hotspots and prevent flare-ups.

Investigators from the Petaluma Fire Department worked alongside utility crews from PG&E to evaluate structural stability and ensure the area was safe. Officials ultimately red-tagged the home, declaring it unfit to occupy, according to the Petaluma Fire Department.

Two residents were displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross while investigators try to determine the cause of the fire.

The Petaluma Fire Department credited strong coordination with the Petaluma Police Department and mutual aid partners, who helped secure the scene and support evacuations in the surrounding neighborhood.

“This could have easily spread beyond the original home,” said Matt Martin, fire battalion chief of the Petaluma Fire Department. “The quick upgrade, the second alarm, and the aggressive attack made the difference, and it’s also a reminder for residents to have clear exit plans and practice them.”
