PETALUMA, CA — Petalumans looking to get moving, beat the heat, or spend more time outdoors have several new options this summer, from a remodeled downtown fitness club to a cooling lounge at the fair and a city effort to name one of the east side’s longest walking and biking paths.
Fairgoers who need a break from heat, crowds, or long walks will have a new place to cool off during this year’s Petaluma Fair.
The Healthy Petaluma Community Relaxation Lounge will open inside Beverly C. Wilson Hall during the Petaluma Fair, from today until June 21.
The lounge is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Healthy Petaluma and the City of Petaluma are sponsoring the lounge, and the Lemon Aide Project will operate it.
The air-conditioned space will offer seating, water, ice, electrolytes, and snacks. Volunteers will staff the lounge and provide information, guidance, and basic support for visitors.
Organizers said the lounge will also include ADA-accessible restrooms, a private nursing station, basic first aid supplies, and a children’s area with sensory items and activities.
24 Hour Fitness announced the grand reopening of its remodeled Petaluma Sport club at 6 Petaluma Blvd. North, where the company has updated the layout, expanded workout areas, and added new recovery amenities.
The company will hold a reopening celebration June 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with tours, giveaways, and raffles.
The club added Recovery24, a recovery and wellness area with amenities focused on mobility, restoration, and overall well-being.
Beyond the fairgrounds, the city is also asking residents to help shape how Petaluma identifies one of its major east side routes.
The city is seeking name suggestions for a 3.5-mile multi-use pathway that runs largely along Petaluma’s eastern urban separator boundary between Kenilworth Junior High School and Casa Grande Road.
Residents can submit nominations through July 5, 2026, using the form on the city’s webpage.
City officials said the pathway is the longest multi-use path in Petaluma. It connects east side neighborhoods with schools and parks, gives people a car-free route away from busy roads such as Sonoma Mountain Parkway and Ely Boulevard South, and offers views of Sonoma Mountain and the countryside east of the city.
The city said naming the pathway will help residents recognize and use the route. Petaluma also has grant funding to install street and pathway signs in 2027 to help people navigate the city by foot and bicycle.
Officials encouraged residents to suggest names that are descriptive, creative, or tied to geography or local history.
After the nomination period closes, city staff will bring options to the Recreation, Music, and Parks Commission for a recommendation. The City Council has final authority over names for city facilities.
Residents who submit nominations may include an email address if they want updates on the process.
