Petaluma's annual community festival under the stars returns Aug. 4.

| Updated

PETALUMA, CA — Fire engines, patrol cars, free food, games, music, and hands-on activities will fill the Petaluma Fairgrounds next month as the city's annual Petaluma Night Out brings residents together with first responders and community organizations for an evening focused on safety, service, and neighborhood connections.

The free event runs Aug. 4 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Petaluma Fairgrounds and serves as the city's signature public safety festival.

Visitors will have the chance to meet firefighters, police officers, CHP officers, Sonoma County sheriff's deputies, the Red Cross, the city's SAFE Team, and representatives from numerous city departments and nonprofit organizations. Booths will offer safety demonstrations, educational activities, giveaways, resources, and opportunities for families to learn more about services available throughout the community.

Guests can also tour emergency vehicles, watch live public safety demonstrations, enjoy music, play games, win prizes, and take part in family-friendly activities.

This year's event also adds two community service opportunities. Organizers are hosting a blood drive and a back-to-school "Pack the Patrol" campaign to collect new school supplies, including notebooks, pencils, markers, and other classroom essentials for local students. People who donate blood or contribute school supplies will receive extra raffle tickets.

"We do this event to bring our community closer, promote public safety, and provide insight of our valuable city resources and support to all residents," organizers said in a press release. "It's a night to celebrate our collective efforts in making Petaluma a safer and stronger city."
