PETALUMA, CA — An at-risk missing adult from Petaluma was found safe Friday night in Humboldt County after police tracked his vehicle across multiple Northern California counties, authorities said.
The Petaluma Police Department received a report about the man at about 6:38 p.m.
Police said he had left his home earlier in the afternoon and had not returned. Due to his age and reported memory issues, officers classified him as an at-risk missing person.
Police used the Flock Safety automated license plate reader network to track the vehicle's general direction of travel. The vehicle was detected traveling through Solano, Lake, and Mendocino counties before entering Humboldt County.
Petaluma police shared the updated information with agencies along the route as the search continued.
At about 11:35 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office located the man and his vehicle. He was safe, and his family was notified, according to police.
Authorities said the man had traveled more than 150 miles from his Petaluma home before being found.
