PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma man wanted on a felony warrant is suspected of shoving an officer, fleeing into a nearby business, and punching a second officer in the face, police said.
A Petaluma police officer patrolling near the 1000 block of Petaluma Boulevard North spotted 34-year-old Francisco Perez walking in the area at about 10 a.m. Sunday.
Police said Perez had an outstanding felony warrant issued by Sonoma County Superior Court. The warrant stemmed from a previous arrest for resisting police.
Perez stopped and spoke with the officer before shoving the officer and running into a nearby business, according to Petaluma police.
Officers followed Perez inside, where they said he resisted arrest. Perez punched a second officer in the face during the struggle, according to police.
An officer used a Taser to incapacitate Perez and arrest him. No officers were seriously injured.
Petaluma Fire Department personnel evaluated Perez at the scene following the Taser. He was examined at a local hospital and taken to the Sonoma County Jail.
Police arrested Perez on suspicion of resisting a peace officer and battery on a peace officer. He also faces the outstanding felony warrant, according to the Petaluma Police Department.
