PETALUMA, CA — Police found a firearm and removed a student today from a Petaluma high school after a security lock-down.
The student sparked a 20-minute secure hold at Casa Grande High School, according to a latter from Superintendent Davina Goldwasser.
At about 11:15 a.m., Casa Grande students reported a possible firearm at the school.
Staff called in Petaluma police according to protocol. Police shut down the campus at about 11:15 a.m.
The school lifted the secure hold about 11:35 a.m.
Goldwasser said in the announcement that students were safe and school operations returned to normal.
Petaluma police said they were still investigating and planned to share more information later today.
Students who need help can speak with a trusted adult on campus. Counseling and mental health staff are also available.
The district said it could not provide more details because of student privacy.
Goldwasser thanked the students who reported the concern, school staff, and officers.
