PETALUMA, CA — A 39-year-old Penngrove man was arrested Sept. 7 after an investigation into a July stabbing led to a nearly three-hour standoff at his home, according to the Petaluma Police Department.
Police said officers initially responded around 11:54 p.m. July 24 to a report of a fight in progress on the 100 block of Eastside Circle.
Officers found blood at the residence, but the people involved had left, police said.
About 45 minutes later, officers were dispatched to Petaluma Valley Hospital after a stabbing victim arrived there. The victim told police he had been assaulted at the Eastside Circle residence and was later transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Detectives identified Michael Orsini as the suspected assailant and obtained arrest and search warrants, police said.
On Sept. 7, authorities received information that Orsini was at his residence on the 200 block of Hatchery Road in Penngrove.
Petaluma police SWAT officers responded and ordered occupants from the Eastside Circle residence before searching it for evidence, Petaluma PD said.
Officers later went to Orsini's home and made several announcements ordering him to surrender. Crisis negotiators began speaking with him by phone around 8:27 p.m. and continued negotiations for about three hours.
Police said CS gas was introduced into the home during the standoff.
Orsini surrendered at about 11:29 p.m. and was arrested on the warrant before being taken to the county jail after receiving medical clearance, according to authorities.
Searches of the two locations turned up cellphones, biological evidence, multiple knives, bear spray, a Taser and multiple firearms, police said.
