Police Chief Frederick Shavies and a local pediatrician outlined how powerful e-bikes and unclear rules are contributing to more serious crashes. City leaders signaled interest in local standards while emphasizing education before enforcement.

• Five in the running for three open City Council seats (piedmontexedra.com) — Five Piedmont residents, including incumbent Tom Ramsey, are running for three City Council seats in the Nov. 3, 2026 election. With the school board race canceled due to unopposed incumbents, the city will shoulder the full election cost, estimated at $5–$7 per registered voter. Interviews with the council candidates will be published in the coming weeks.
