Celebrate the Solstice with Hikes in the Hills

Tomorrow marks the traditional start of winter, the shortest day of the year.

Bundle up, everyone — winter begins tomorrow, Dec. 21.

The winter solstice, the traditional start to the season, falls at 3:12 a.m. PST. That ushers in the shortest day and longest night of the year, with the latest, southernmost sunrise (7:22 a.m.), the earliest, southermost sunset (4:55 p.m.) and the lowest appearance of the sun in sky at noon.

According to almanac.com, it's the earliest arrival of winter since 1896.
