CHP Arrests Oakland Man on Suspicion of DUI Following Pursuit

Officers said they also recovered a loaded gun from the vehicle.

A 40-year-old Oakland man was arrested this morning after California Highway Patrol officers said he led them on a pursuit and rammed two patrol vehicles while trying to escape.

The pursuit started after CHP officers tried to pull the man over on the Coolidge Avenue off-ramp of Interstate Highway 580. The man, who was stopped on suspicion of DUI, initially pulled over but quickly took off, leading CHP officers on a pursuit until they used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, officers said. The man then attempted to flee again by ramming two patrol cars, officers said. Officers were able to take the man into custody without anyone being injured.

Officers said they also recovered a loaded gun from the vehicle. The man was arrested on suspicion of DUI. There was no information immediately available on other charges he may face.
