County Residents Invited to Breastfeeding Community Discussion

The free event will be held at the Public Health Conference Center in San Leandro on Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

While World Breastfeeding Week is all about increasing and sustaining the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding for just one week a year, Highland Hospital (part of the Alameda Health System) has long been a strong supporter of breastfeeding.

Highland is designated as a “Baby Friendly” hospital (few hospitals have this designation), and has seen its newly discharged mothers go from exclusively breastfeeding at a rate of less than 30 percent to more than 70 percent in the last five years. Not only that, but Highland is involved in a number of county-wide programs in support of breastfeeding— such as the Aug. 6 discussion group to understand the community conditions that impact breastfeeding families in Alameda County to help improve overall health outcomes in the area. The discussion is taking place from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Public Health Conference Center in San Leandro.
