Crews Repair Broken Water Pipe

Service has been restored to customers.

East Bay Municipal Utility District crews this morning repaired a ruptured sewer line in Oakland. The line ruptured Thursday while EBMUD crews were working to repair a broken 12-inch cast iron water main on Oakland Avenue, officials said. Approximately 12 properties on Oakland Avenue lost water service Thursday, and the work closed two eastbound lanes of Oakland Avenue.

The pipe was repaired at 3 a.m., and water service has been restored to customers, officials said. Crews are still working to remove shoring and fill the hole. Work is expected to go into the afternoon.
