A rainy week for baseball, but the sun was out for some games

Weekly game results for Piedmont Baseball Foundation teams are listed below. Game information from coaches and team representatives should be submitted by Sunday at 8 p.m. at www.piedmontbaseball.org using the “Game Publicity” menu item. Results below are from games played last week.
SHETLAND
Ironbirds vs. Mudcats
The player of the game between the Ironbirds and Mudcats has to be Mother Nature for allowing the short window to play baseball. The Ironbirds' co-players of the game are Nate Richards and Noah KIlleen for stellar defense and timely hitting. For the Mudcats, Ezra Trost-Goldhammer and Tom Rolefson share player of the game honors for clutch defensive plays and exceptional work at the plate.
River Cats vs. Rockhounds
The specter of rain could not dampen the spirits of the Rockhounds and River Cats on Saturday. A slugfest ensued with big hits galore. Players of the game were Jackson Violich and William Kennedy for the River Cats and Owen Blanford for the Rockhounds.
PINTO
Cardinals 22, Cubs 11
The Cardinals played the Cubs in a great game on Sunday. The Cardinals' offense was impressive, with home runs by Antonio Rivera and Daniel McLaughlin, a triple that cleared the bases by Alex Tafapolsky, and RBI's by Chaz Whitley, Dean Lopez, Murray Davis, Cormac Whitney, and Hollis Williams. The Cardinals put up a strong defense with Brian Cain, Nico DeFazio, and Rivera making great outs for the team in the field.
MUSTANG
Piedmont Jedi 10, Tornadoes 2
The Jedi combined 5 shutout innings along with runs in 5 of 6 innings to beat a solid Tornadoes team 10-2. Noah Rosenbaum was exceptional on the mound for the Jedi, striking out 5, while Ben Levinson led the offensive charge and stole 3 bases.
BRONCO
Piedmont Vipers 12, Red Raiders 1
The Vipers won their first game of the season with an all-around team effort. Logan Vawter pitched 3 shutout innings and Patrick Aebi followed with 2 strong innings. Hitting highlights included Tate Pieper's 2-run single, Ethan DiRienzo's rocket double, and Dylan Thayer's solid single. Defensive stars included Aidan Dixon at 2nd, Jackson Cavenaugh at 1st, and Sidd Gala with a great catch in left field to end the game.
