Weekly game results for Piedmont Baseball Foundation teams are listed below. Game information from coaches and team representatives should be submitted by Sunday at 8 p.m. at www.piedmontbaseball.org using the “Game Publicity” menu item. Results below are from games played last week.
PINTO
Piedmont Cardinals 18, Orinda Warriors 21
Despite a 5-run rally in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Cardinals lost to the Warriors for the first time in 3 match-ups this season. Hollis Williams registered a home run, while Antonio Rivera, Daniel McLaughlin, Cormac Whitney, Dean Lopez, Murray Williams and Brian Cain each had strong hits and multiple RBI's. Cole Pugsley started the game by catching a fly ball, and Max Young made an amazing diving catch in center field.
Piedmont Cubs 24, Orinda Spartans 14
The Cubs defeated the top-seeded Orinda Spartans in a second-round playoff game. Every Cub recorded at least one hit, led by Alex McLaughlan, Michael Aikawa and JoJo Murphy with four hits each while Andrew Dorman and Quintan Han went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Andrew Mendelson made numerous spectacular plays at 3rd in addition to his 3 hits and 4 runs scored.
Piedmont Cubs 16, California Screamers 14
The Cubs had great contributions from the whole team to best the Orinda California Screamers in the opening round of the playoffs. Quintan Han had a great catch and 3 hits, Charlie Jones scored 2 runs while anchoring the infield at PA. Shane Miller played great defense, AJ Harris scored 2 runs, and Sam Corcoran went 3 for 3 to pace the offense.
MUSTANG
Bears 6, Polar Cats 5
In this excellently played defensive game by both sides, the Bears scratched out two runs in the last inning to take the lead, and then held on for the win. Elliot Meeks, Matthew Clavin and Eli Kleinmann pitched well and Luke Barrett closed the door for the save. Offensively, Clavin, Barrett, Billy McNeil, and Brady Dunne contributed multiple hits. For the Polar Cats, Garren Riley, Nicholas Lalli, Cutter Mitchell and Abe Barnes pitched solidly.
Bears 11, Knights 5
The Bears produced a solid win with Eli Kleinmann, Billy McNeil, Matthew Clavin, and Luke Barrett anchoring the pitching. Jackson de Melo had a home run, while Barrett, Elliot Meeks, and Brady Dunne chipped in hits to pace the offense. The Knights received solid pitching from Luke Harris, and timely hits from Will Shields, Scott Ewing, and Alan Rossi.
U6 SOFTBALL
Piedmont Black Cats vs. Oakland Red Dragons
The Black Cats ended the season with a great game offensively and defensively. The Black Cats showed heart and team spirit for every game this season! A big shout out to all the Black Cat players: Julia Banuelos, Ellie DeVan, Isley Douglas, Ginger Gardner, Gretchen Gerhardy, Anna Gotto, Annika Hattan-Kutter, Tyler Knapp, Sadie Lahey Teare, Annika Nillsson, Addison Osta Smith, Sammy Schwartz and Elizabeth Wiesbrock.
U8 SOFTBALL
Purple Puppies 7, Purple Panthers 6
A most exciting last game of the Spring season was played between the Purple Puppies and the Purple Panthers. After 2 scoreless innings behind strong pitching from Ruby Trost-Goldhammer and Jillian Tiao for the Puppies and Abigail Drake and Parker Morell for the Panthers, the Puppies pulled ahead with 4 runs in the 3rd inning and the hitting action began. The Panthers pounced and rallied 6 runs in the 4th behind great hitting from All-Stars Elena Haas, Viola Miller, Stella Kohr and Kyndal Todd. In dramatic fashion, the Puppies produced big hits by Caroline Collins, Isabelle Epstein, Ella Kalmbach and Ruby Trost- Goldhammer, who crushed the ball for the walk-off RBI.
U10 SOFTBALL
Mud Hens 10, Dragons 0
Mud Hens Caroline Strauch and Kyra Gardner were fantastic, holding the Dragons to 1 hit, Angela Huang's infield hit in the 2nd. The Dragon's pitchers only allowed 4 hits, but walked 9. The Dragons defense was strong. In the fourth inning, pitcher Maeve Gilbert caught a pop-up and turned and fired to SS Chloe Tjogas, catching the Mud Hens runner off base for an inning-ending double play. Earlier in the game at catcher, Tjogas also threw out a runner trying to steal 3rd.
