Game Reports from Piedmont Baseball-Softball Foundation, May 14-20

Great defensive plays and some stellar comeback games this week.

Weekly game results for Piedmont Baseball Foundation teams are listed below. Game information from coaches and team representatives should be submitted by Sunday at 8 p.m. at www.piedmontbaseball.org using the “Game Publicity” menu item. Results below are from games played last week.

PINTO

Piedmont Cubs 15, Orinda Swing’ahs 22

Ben Barnes had 3 hits and scored a run, Andrew Dorman had a pair of hits and a run scored, and and AJ Harris had several key hits for the Cubs in a tough loss to the Orinda Swing'ahs. Charlie Jones made several excellent plays at PA.

Piedmont Cubs 13, Orinda Naturals 8

The Cubs completed a great comeback win by scoring 4 runs to tie in the 6th
and 5 to take the lead in the 7th - all while holding the big bats of the Orinda
Naturals scoreless in the final 2 innings. Michael Aikawa had 3 hits and played
stellar defense, Andrew Mendelson had 3 hits, 3 runs scored and Sam Corcoran
scored the winning run. Quintan Han also had several nice hits. AJ Harris, Han
and Shane Miller anchored the defense at catcher.

Piedmont Cubs 24, Orinda Blue Sluggers 17

Owen Reilly and JoJo Murphy went 5 for 5 and scored 4 runs each to pace the
Cubs in a battle against the feisty Orinda Blue Sluggers. Owen Somerville had
4 hits and Quintan Han 3 hits plus a pair of runs. Charlie Jones made several
clutch plays in the field and Alex McLaughlan stopped a Blue Slugger comeback
with his great play at shortstop.

Piedmont Cardinals 23, Orinda Warriors 16

In their second matchup of the season, the Cardinals played tough against the
Orinda Warriors and won. Antonio Rivera, Murray Davis and Daniel McLaughlin
each registered triples, while Hollis Williams, Cormac Whitney, Brian Cain, Dean
Lopez, Alex Tafapolsky and Chaz Whitney had RBI's. The defense was strong
with a double play by Rivera, a caught line drive by Cain, and catches deep in
the outfield by Williams and Whitney.

MUSTANG

Piedmont Jedi 10, Piedmont River Cats 5

Patrick Devereaux led the Jedi with 3 hits in a 10-5 victory over the River Cats.
Julian Scherman pitched two stellar innings for the Jedi while River Cats star
Alex Hilton was excellent both on the mound and behind the plate.

Piedmont Bears 4, Piedmont Seals 4

This game featured great defense and pitching with the Seals maintaining a lead
throughout before the Bears came up with two runs in the sixth inning to forge
the tie. For the Seals, Milo Filler scored 3 runs, Cal Barna drove in 2 runs, and
Sam Nooney and Nathan Reese pitched 2 scoreless innings apiece. The Bears
got exceptional pitching from Elliot Meeks, Brady Dunne, and Luke Barrett, and
timely hits from Jackson de Melo and Eli Kleinmann.

BRONCO

Piedmont Vipers 3, Orinda 2

The Vipers played well in a thrilling comeback win against a strong Orinda team. Owen Levinson, Will Suppiger, and Patrick Filler all pitched well. The defense was solid, with excellent plays by Patrick Aebi at catcher and Jackson Cavenaugh in center. The Vipers scored all three runs in the 6th, on a double by Filler and two-out, two-strike, two-run single by Logan Vawter.

Piedmont Aces 13, Piedmont Prospects 3

All of the Aces had at least one hit to close down the Prospects in 5 innings. Lucas Scherman and Sam Von Herrman both had 2 singles and a run, and Grant Keating had 2 singles, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs. Carson Lang had a hard-hit infield single. Elan Valdez-Kaminsky had a strong hit to the outfield, and Samuel White had a hit with a hurt finger. EJ Cheung pitched well with multiple strikeouts.

Piedmont Aces 11, Orinda Angels 3

The Aces held the Angels scoreless in 3 innings with great pitching by Sam Von Herrman. Jonah Sanders pitched well. Aces produced multiple hits. Grant Keating had 4 singles, an RBI, and a run. Lucas Scherman had 3 runs and 3 hits, and Andrew Newell had 2 runs and 3 hits. Jacob Prager had a double and a run. Elan Valdez-Kaminsky made a great outfield catch.

SOFTBALL U6

Black Cats vs. Purple Ponies

There were incredible defensive plays turned by every girl. Most notable was the
bang-bang play made by Sammy Schwartz and Ellie De Van at short and third.
Annika Hattan-Kutter did a great job of running down a slow roller, who then
threw to Ginger Gardner who made a fantastic catch at first; Gretchen Gerhardy
owned second base while Julia Banuelos and Elizabeth Wiesbrock hustled in the
outfield. Big shout out to Tyler Knapp whose hitting was stellar!

SOFTBALL U10

Piedmont Mudhens 8, Oakland Blue Blizzards 5

The MudHens continued their winning ways with an 8-5 victory over the Oakland
Blue Blizzards Saturday afternoon. With the win the MudHens were assured of
another winning season. After jumping to an 8-0 lead after the first 2 innings,
the Mudhens pitching continued their control of the game. Stellar pitching was
once again led by Kyra Gardner and Caroline Strauch, with newly practiced
pitcher Kyle Connors. The hitting (and base stealing) was led by Cameron Park
1-2, Kylie-Ann Heller 2-2, Betty Hosler 1-1, Anna Smegal 0-0 2 walks & 2 stolen
bases and 1 run scored, and Trinity Jacob hit by a pitch and a run scored.
