At Least 17 Oakland Residents Displaced By Weekend Fires

The fire department says 16 people were living in one duplex.

OAKLAND, CA — Two fires Sunday in Oakland displaced at least 17 people from their homes, an Oakland fire battalion chief said.

The first fire was reported at 12:28 p.m. at 2909 35th Ave. One unit of a duplex caught fire and displaced 16 people, including adults and children, Battalion Chief James Bowron said.

No one was injured.

The second fire was reported at 5:02 p.m. at 1520 24th Ave. The fire burned part of a two-story, single-family Victorian home, Bowron said.

No one was injured in that fire either.
