Mainstay of PHS Football Program Steps Aside

Offensive coordinator Steve Humphries won't be on the sidelines anymore, but will continue working on the new Piedmont football archive.

Steve Humphries announced his decision to step away from his role as offensive coordinator and director of operations Monday night in an issue of the Piedmont Gridiron Update—the online newsletter he created for the Piedmont High School football team as part of a drive to improve the team's communications and raise its profile over the last five years.

Humphries' resignation comes in the wake of Highlanders last month. Together, Humphries and Bryan created the A-11 offense, which brought the team national attention.

In his message to players, parents, alumni and fans, Humphries reminisced about his long history with the PHS program, which stretches back to his childhood when he was a water boy for the frosh team that his father, Mike Humphries, still coaches. Read the message here

While he won't be coaching, the younger Humphries said he will continue to be involved in the program, focusing instead on developing the Piedmont football archive that he recently started.

The PHS administration finished interviewing head coach candidates last Thursday, according to Humphries' message. To get an alert when news about the Highlanders' new leadership is published click on the "keep me posted" button below.
