Mountain View Cemetery Cuts Trees, Plans to Fill Canyon Below Coaches Field

The fill project would require City of Piedmont approval.

The owners of Mountain View Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont Ave., Oakland, are removing 100 to 200 eucalyptus trees in the cemetery's northeast corner, and they are planning a massive earthmoving project that would fill a canyon below Piedmont's Coaches field, according to an article on insidebayarea.com.

The project would entail removing one of the cemetery's ponds, but the creek that runs through the area would be "daylighted," the article says.

Although most of the cemetery lies in Oakland, the portion affected by the fill project is with Piedmont's city limits. It would eventually be used for additional gravesites, the article says.

The portion of the project with Piedmont's borders would require environmental review and permits from the City of Piedmont, it says.
