Oakland Man Fatally Shot During Robbery on Tuesday is Identified

The victim was found when police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1300 block of 75th Avenue at 12:36 a.m. on Tuesday.

A man who was fatally shot during a robbery in East Oakland early Tuesday morning has been identified by police as 20-year-old Jonathan Pears-Smith of Oakland. Police said Pears-Smith was found when police responded to reports of gunfire in the 1300 block of 75th Avenue at 12:36 a.m. on Tuesday.

Pears-Smith and a 24-year-old woman were found suffering from gunshot wounds inside a car parked there and both were taken to a local hospital. Pears-Smith was pronounced dead but the woman was treated for her injuries and released. Police said the suspects ran from the shooting scene with the woman’s property.

Police haven’t made any arrests in the case.
