Oakland Parolee Arrested After Safeway Store Robbery, Assault on Security Guard
Police arrested Darryl Garner, 24, on multiple charges.

An Oakland parolee was arrested Monday after an early morning robbery at a Fremont Safeway store, according to police. Officers were called to the Safeway at 39100 Argonaut Way at 4:55 a.m. on a report that a suspect had assaulted a security guard and stolen merchandise from the store.
The suspect was seen driving away in an older-model gold Toyota Camry. Officers located a suspect and suspect vehicle a few minutes later in a parking lot at Mowry Avenue and Blacow Road. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle and began a pursuit, but the pursuit was stopped almost immediately when the suspect drove the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of Mowry Avenue, according to police.
The suspect crashed into the center median at Mowry Avenue and Farwell Drive and then fled on foot toward Interstate Highway 880. After a search, a suspect was found hiding in a parking lot on Farwell Place and taken into custody with the help of a police dog, officers said.
