Piedmont Native Violinist Returns for Chamber Trio Concert

Circle April 18 on your calendar for the Manhattan Piano Trio at Piedmont High.

A renowned chamber music trio, playing in Piedmont April 18, has “Manhattan” in its name and a big chunk of Piedmont at its heart. 

Violinist Wayne Lee of the Manhattan Piano Trio is a native of Piedmont. It will be his first performance here since graduating from Piedmont High School 10 years ago.

A large portion of the proceeds go toward CHIME, or Citizens Highly Interested in Music Education, a parents’ organization that helps fund music education in the Piedmont Unified School District. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 18, in the Alan Harvey Theater at , 800 Magnolia Ave.

Tickets cost $22 for adults, $10 for students and $45 for reserved orchestra seats. They may be obtained online at Eventbrite.com (Manhattan Piano Trio) or by calling 510-595-4015.

Also in the Manhattan Piano Trio are cellist Dmitry Kouzov and pianist Milana Strezeva. With more than 300 concerts in its first five seasons, the Trio is one of the most active groups in the classical music scene.

This season, the Trio celebrated the release of its third album, a disc of Schumann and Chopin trios for the Marquis Classics label.

The program at this Piedmont concert will consist of Beethoven’s Ghost Trio, Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite No. 1, Arvo PŠrt’s Mozart-Adagio, and Brahms’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C major.
