Piedmont's Kevin Shum Places Fourth in U.S. Figure Skating Championships
Shum took the pewter medal Monday in the novice men's competition

Kevin Shum, a freshman at Piedmont High School, placed fourth overall Monday in the novice men's competition at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose.
The gold medal went to Vincent Zhou, 11, of Palo Alto.
Shum, 14, was in second place after Sunday's short program but dropped in the standings after the free skate portion of the competition on Monday. He won the novice men's pewter medal.
