Piedmont's Thomas Horn Wins Critics' Choice Award

Horn won for his role in "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"

Thomas Horn, 14, of Piedmont won the 2012 Critics' Choice award for best young actor, it was announced Thursday night.

Horn was nominated for his role in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which also stars Tom Hanks (who attended Skyline High School in Oakland) and Sandra Bullock. It is Horn's first appearance in a film.

Other nominees included Asa Butterfield for Hugo, Elle Fanning for Super 8,  Ezra Miller for We Need to Talk About Kevin, Saoirse Ronan for Hanna and Shailene Woodley for The Descendants.

The Critics' Choice awards are given by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. Horn was present at the ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium to accept his award. The ceremony was broadcast on VH1, where you can view a video of Horn accepting his award.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close will have its Bay Area premiere Monday at the in a benefit showing for Piedmont schools and two nonprofit vision organizations. Click for information on tickets.
