Piedmont Student Aboard the 'Big Green Bus'

Dartmouth students are touring the country in the college's very eco-friendly bus. Today's stop: City Slickers Farm in Oakland.

Dartmouth College’s “Big Green Bus” is coming to Oakland on July 26.

Dartmouth students, including Maya Viavant of Piedmont, are touring the country this summer on the Big Green Bus — which is run on waste vegetable oil and outfitted with solar-powered appliances and a recycling and compost station — to spread enthusiasm for environmental conservation and encourage sustainability at the community level. The Bus hit the road on June 13 and is traveling 12,000 miles from coast to coast.

The public is invited to join the Big Green Bus and City Slickers Farms on Thursday, July 26, from 1 to 5 p.m. for a day of organic gardening at City Slickers’ Fitzgerald and Union Plaza Parks site (at the intersection of 34th and Peralta Sreets, Oakland). After the gardening, the students will offer tours of the Big Green Bus.
