Piedmont Woman Runs Well in S.F. Marathon

Judy Shipp was Piedmont's only registered runner in Sunday's event.

Judy Shipp of Piedmont, the city's only registered runner in the San Francisco Marathon, placed sixth in her division Sunday in the 26.2-mile event.

Shipp competed in the women's 55-59 age category. Unofficial results show her "net time" as 4 hours, 19 minutes and 45 seconds and "gun time" as 4:53:11.

Net time is from starting line to finish, as measured by an individual computer chip in the runner's shoe; gun time, from start signal to finish line. In large events such as the San Francisco Marathon, a runner further back in the pack may not reach the starting line for several minutes.
