Reopening Delayed for Oakland BART Station Entrance Under Construction
There is no scheduled date yet for its reopening, according to BART officials.

The 19th Street BART station entrance closest to the agency’s headquarters in Oakland remains shut down past its original reopening date because of problems with a canopy being built over the escalator there, a BART spokesman said. The entrance at the northeast corner of Broadway and 20th Street, a few blocks from BART’s headquarters at 300 Lakeside Drive, closed in mid-September for a $2.1 million project to install a canopy, new lighting and other improvements there.
The station was scheduled to reopen on Dec. 22 but remains closed and BART spokesman Jim Allison said today there is no scheduled date yet for its reopening. Allison said the delay was caused by a problem with part of the prefabricated steel structure of the canopy. Once completed, BART officials said the canopy will extend the service life of the escalator and improve reliability by sheltering it from the effects of weather.
