UPDATE: Report of Person Under Train Closes El Cerrito Plaza BART Station

A person under a train at the El Cerrito Plaza BART station has died, which has closed the station this morning and led to delays systemwide, BART officials said. BART officials received a report at 9:30 a.m. of a person under a train at the station at 6699 Fairmount Ave.

At 10:30 a.m., BART officials announced the person died and the Contra Costa County coroner’s office has been called to the scene. BART officials said the emergency is causing delays for trains on the Richmond, Fremont and Millbrae lines. Trains are running again along the Richmond line after earlier turning around at the North Berkeley station, but they will not stop at the El Cerrito Plaza station, which remains closed, according to BART officials.

Passengers are advised to expect 10- to 20-minute delays, BART officials said.

An update on the person’s condition was not immediately available this morning. BART officials said the emergency is causing delays for trains on the Richmond, Fremont and Millbrae lines. Trains are turning around at the North Berkeley station and are also not running between the Richmond and El Cerrito Plaza stations, according to BART officials.

BART is working to run parallel bus service on the Richmond line but it was not in place as of 10 a.m.
