Signs for a Cause

Havens Service Crew Kicks off the School Year with a Sign Making Project

We had a full classroom with maximum attendance for our first activity this year. A little over thirty kids joined us to
work on two projects that benefited UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.

The first project was making signs for Swim Across America, a fundraiser for cancer research for kids, where participants (Such as our own amazing Christina Vo!) swim in the Bay. The kids made signs that read “Swim Across America, make waves to cure cancer” to help cheer the swimmers on.

For more information about Swim Across America check out Christina’s page at
http://www.swimacrossamerica.org/site/TR/OpenWater/SanFrancisco?px=1371731&pg=personal&fr_id=2740

The Second project was making room decorations for the kids at Children’s Hospital. With origami paper, the kids punched out shapes, such as hearts and circles, (or made origami creations) and strung them together on yarn to hang in hospital rooms to help bring some cheer to the children at Children’s Hospital.

We also did a couple of side projects for our school. The children made new signs for the Lost and Found and cut out fish for children to write their names on in order to record their community service. We hang them on our community service banner located over the lost and found for all to see.

Our next afterschool activity will take place October 7th from 3-4 pm benefiting the Bay Area Children’s Theater. Sign up your student by emailing havenscrew@gmail.com with your child’s name and grade
