Smoke Reported in Uptown Building Under Construction in Oakland

Fire officials say no one was in the building at the time of the fire.

Oakland firefighters responded to a report of a small fire in a building under construction near 22nd Street and Broadway this afternoon. Firefighters called to the scene at 4:08 p.m. found smoke but no fire in the two-story building, according to Lt. Damon Covington.

The fire was under control by 4:15 p.m. No injuries were reported. Covington said no one was in the building, which is undergoing construction, when the fire was reported and the cause of the smoke remains under investigation.
