Softball: Highlanders Struggle Against Berkeley

The Yellowjackets handed the home team a challenge in early season action.

The Piedmont High School varsity softball team fell to Berkeley High in a scrimmage Tuesday, March 1, at Witter Field.

The opponents were familiar to Highlanders coach Frank Haskell as he had been the junior varsity coach at Berkeley High for the previous five years before signing on as Piedmont's varsity coach this season.

The Highlander infield played strong with deft plays by Maya Schacker at second, Marielle Cohen at shortstop and Erica Peterson at third. Georgia Hill pitched until  she was relieved by Patrice Trowbridge in the sixth inning. Both Hill and Tess Reichle had impressive at bats.
