Police determined the weapon was a BB gun. The student is just 14-years-old.

PIEDMONT, CA — A 14-year-old student at Piedmont High School was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after he was found with a BB gun in his backpack, according to police.

Police responded to the school, located at 800 Magnolia Ave., at 3:13 p.m. on reports that a student was brandishing a firearm. They isolated the student and found a gun in his backpack, police Chief Jeremy Bowers said.

The officers determined the gun, despite looking realistic, was just a BB gun, Bowers said. The student was arrested and investigators are still trying to determine what his intent was and to what extent he brandished the weapon.
