Teams Perform Well at Holiday Tournament
The Piedmont Baseball-Softball Foundation U8 and U10 teams played well in a Memorial Day tournament in South San Francisco
U8
Piedmont’s U8 team, a combination of players from the Pinto Cubs and the Cardinals, had a strong showing against some of the finest teams in the Bay Area.
The team led off the tournament with a strong 12-5 win on Saturday, May 26, over the SF Baseball Academy, an exciting game that featured strong hitting, fielding, and base running by all 15 players on Piedmont’s team.
On Sunday, May 27, Piedmont dropped two close games, first in a 8-4 game that was close throughout to South City Blue and then to a very tough and undefeated Hillsborough team in the nightcap by a final score of 10-4.

All players contributed to the team’s strong play in the tourney. They now return to the Cubs and Cardinals for play in the Orinda league’s end of season tournament.
U10
Following six weeks of Sunday evening practices, the U10 squad had a great weekend of baseball under the leadership of pro coach (and former PHS standout catcher) Deren Rehr-Davis.

In the first game of a Saturday, May 26, doubleheader, Piedmont came storming back after being down 7-0 in the 4th inning to hold a tough SF Baseball Academy team scoreless in the final two innings while scoring 8 runs for a thrilling walk-off 8-7 win.
Exhausted from the first win, Piedmont dropped the second game of the doubleheader to a very tough Belmont team 16-3.
On Sunday, Piedmont jumped out to an early 3-1 lead over a tenacious South City team. After a tense back and forth battle, South City prevailed, holding on for a 6-5 victory.
The U10 team has grown into a tight-knit group of ballplayers who now return to their regular-season teams to face each other in the end of season Piedmont Mustang Tournament.
