Rifles, Nunchucks Among Weapons Seized After Traffic Stop In East Bay Enclave: PD

PIEDMONT, CA — A traffic stop in Piedmont led officers to a home where they found several weapons, police said, including what appears to be a type of sniper rifle.

Police say a sergeant pulled a driver over in Piedmont in August and found two weapons hidden inside the engine compartment.

The suspect was arrested, "but the investigation didn’t stop there," the Piedmont Police Department said in a post on Wednesday.

A warrant was granted for officers to search the suspect's home, and there, they found an arsenal of illegally possessed weapons, authorities said.

Officers again took the suspect into custody in connection with the weapons, police said. Their identity was not released.

A photo shared by the Piedmont Police Department shows more than a dozen magazines, some filled, rifles, nunchucks, a knife and at least four handguns.

"This case is a great example of the work that continues long after an initial arrest — following leads, developing information, and working collaboratively with our law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe," police said.
