As summer winds down and the hustle and bustle of families falling back into school and work routines begins, the Red Cross reminds those eligible that the need for blood and platelets is constant and to keep donation on their to-do lists.
While thousands of people answered the call for blood and platelet donations issued by the American Red Cross earlier this summer, an urgent need remains for platelets and types O negative, A negative and B negative blood. Blood donations can be made every 56 days, so donors who gave in the first half of the summer may be eligible to give again now.
The Red Cross relies on the generous support of volunteer blood and platelet donors now to continue to meet the needs of patients at nearly 3,000 hospitals and transfusions centers throughout the country. Visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS to learn more and make an appointment to donate.
