βItβs great to have another way to get down and up,β Chabot Space & Science Center spokeswoman Autumn King said. King said some people are taking a break from driving on the weekend, so this gives them another way to get to the center.
The service is also a way for teenagers participating in the centerβs Galaxy Explorer program to get to the center when their parents cannot take them.

AC Transit line 339 will operate every 40 minutes to the center from 9 a.m. to 9:40 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The late hours on Sunday will allow members of the center to attend telescope viewings and movies without driving.
Zoo officials said they are ecstatic about the announcement. βWe are thrilled that AC Transit is expanding weekend service to Oakland Zoo,β chief financial officer Nik Dehejia said in a statement. The new service allows residents to travel by bus to the zoo seven days a week.
AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson said residents have been requesting the new service for a long time. Zoo employees will also benefit, as they will be able to take the bus to work on the weekends. AC Transitβs line 46 will take visitors to the zoo every hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In the summer, the line will run every 30 minutes. The bus stop is located at the zooβs lower entrance, by the Wayne and Gladys Valley Childrenβs Zoo.
