Wood Park Round Up

Havens students joined Friends of Sausal Creek for a Wood Park clean-up on Saturday, November 16. Havens students and parents spent the morning clearing ivy and non-native plants from a hillside next to the butterfly garden area. Everyone worked hard but had a good time being together under the sun. “We appreciate all the good energy and good work the students and their parents accomplished,” said Lisa Lemus, coordinator for Wood Park.

Wood Park is nestled in a small community in Oakland and its surrounding neighbors use it for play, education and relaxation. Over the last eight years, Friends of Sausal Creek has helped maintain the park and create new areas for play and learning. Neighborhood children created a “music tree” for all to enjoy, while college students from Cal planted a butterfly garden.

While we were there, one of the local neighbors and his children stopped by and told us how he and his kids come to this park every day for a safe fun place to play outside. His family and other neighbors provided fruit, water, and other snacks for our volunteers, showing how much they appreciate the work we do in their neighborhood.
