Bay Area Man Gets Over 2 Dozen Years In Federal Prison For Sexual Exploitation Of Child

The man pleaded guilty in June 2025 to sexually exploiting a teenage girl.

VALLEJO, CA — A Vallejo man was sentenced to over 24 years in federal prison this week for the sexual exploitation of a minor, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Friday.

John Remlinger, 43, received 24 years and four months in prison for posing as a minor to make contact with a 13-year-old victim, prosecutors said.

In the summer of 2021, Remlinger contacted the child using an app called Wink, which was advertised as a service for minors to meet and make friends with other minors.

He told the victim that he was 17 and the girl responded, accurately, that she was 13. Their conversations moved to Snapchat, where Remlinger demanded that she provide sexually explicit videos and images, telling her how to pose in them.

The girl sent him the videos. He also recorded a live video call over Snapchat in which the girl posed in a sexually suggestive manner.
