I moved here with my family 10 years ago after discovering this jewel of a city in West County. I realized the growth potential and thought this would be a great place to raise my kids. Well it's still a great place thanks to being rid of that evil money hungry City Manager. Even though the management has changed, I am still concerned with the future of this city. I will be one of the first family's to move if the Sheriff's Office takes over.
I used to live in Rodeo and parts of Richmond where Sheriffs patrolled and it was sub-par to say the least. I have used the Hercules Police Department's service a few times and have been very pleased. The officers are prompt, kind, informative, and actually seem to care about my petty needs.
I used to dislike the police, but since moving to Hercules my perspective has changed. A feeling of relief and calmness comes over me when I drive into the city limits. There are some city's where I wouldn't even bother to call the cops because I knew by the time they arrived the situation would have dissolved and I wouldn't need them anymore.

I don't know how our PD is holding it together when they have already laid off six or seven officers! How many does that leave us with now? I know we didn't have that many to begin with. I do know that we are far below average percentage of officers per population total.
It sure as hell isn't going to be their fault when their response times slow due to the number of layoffs that are occurring. It will be a sad day when we loose this service. I have never attended a city council meeting, but will be happy to if I hear we will be loosing the best police service in this county.
