Motorcyclist Dies After Collision on I-80 Near Hercules

The victim, a 45-year-old Vallejo resident whose name is not yet being released, crashed east of Willow Avenue.

A motorcyclist died following a crash on westbound Interstate Highway 80 near Hercules this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim, a 45-year-old Vallejo resident whose name is not yet being released, crashed east of Willow Avenue on westbound Highway 80 around 7:15 a.m., CHP spokesman Officer John Fransen said.

The victim was riding his 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle when he lost control of the bike, possibly after being clipped by another vehicle, and struck the back of a gray BMW X3 in the second left westbound lane, according to the CHP. The motorcycle slid on the ground and came to rest. The motorcyclist then got up and tried to walk to the center divider, but was hit by a vehicle, described by witnesses as a white Lexus RX or similar type of white SUV, Fransen said.

The motorcyclist was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the CHP. The BMW driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, but the white SUV did not stop, according to Fransen.
