Catch a Free Ride on WestCAT During the Month of July

WestCAT is Offering Free local and express bus rides on one specially marked 40th anniversary bus all through July.

WestCAT will be offering free local and express bus rides on one specially marked anniversary bus every weekday throughout the month of July in celebration of its 40th Anniversary (1977-2017).

Beginning July 3, free rides will be provided to anyone boarding the specially marked bus. The free bus will circulate throughout the system on a variety of routes. In other words, the anniversary bus could show up on any local or express bus route at any time of the day and at any location (Martinez, El Cerrito del Norte BART, Contra Costa College, etc.). Staff will tweet and post hints about the location of the bus throughout the day on its Facebook page and Twitter feed (@wccta). Otherwise, riders should just be on the lookout for the big wrapped WestCAT free bus and catch it at its next stop. The Lynx route is excluded from this promotion.

“WestCAT was looking for a fun way to reward customers for their loyalty to the service over the past 40 years and to provide a little challenge for riders who would like to try and track the bus down via Social Media using #WestCATFreeRide. The bus will be wrapped in a fun and funky 1970’s theme and will be easy to identify. Staff are really excited about this promotion; we think that it will be a lot of fun!”

The Western Contra Costa Transit Authority (WestCAT) was established in August 1977 as a Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement between Contra Costa County and the cities of Hercules and Pinole. The Authority was created with the purpose of owning, operating and administrating a public transportation system serving the area between the Richmond/El Sobrante border to the west and the Carquinez Bridge to the east.

More of WestCAT’s history can be found on its website www.westcat.org, along with archival photos and stories from the early days of WestCAT. The Authority will continue posting information about upcoming 40th Anniversary activities and promotions on its website throughout the summer.
