Charged With Murder: Driver In Crash That Killed 4

EAST BAY — A driver who was allegedly responsible for a five-car collision that killed four people, including two children, on Saturday evening on Interstate Highway 80 in San Pablo has been charged with murder, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.

Fred Lowe, 47, is scheduled for arraignment today at 1:30 p.m. at the Contra Costa County Superior Court in Richmond. Lowe allegedly left the scene of the collision, which was reported at 8:11 p.m. on westbound Highway 80 near the San Pablo Dam Road off-ramp, but was later arrested, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Daryl and Joseph Horn, ages 50 and 14 respectively, as well as Troy and Baden Biddle, ages 52 and 12, were all killed in the crash, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

The Biddles were visiting from Bainbridge Island in Washington state.

Joseph Horn was a student at Redwood Middle School in Napa. His mother, Daryl's wife, is an employee at the Napa Valley Unified School District, according to district personnel.

Jared Horn, a sophomore at University of California at Berkeley and a pitcher for the school's baseball team, survived the crash. Cal baseball's head coach Mike Neu called him a "respected and beloved" member of
the team in a statement issued after the crash.
