CHP: No Evidence of Freeway Shooting

A shooting was reported on westbound Highway 80 near Appian Way on Tuesday.

Pinole, CA - The California Highway Patrol has yet to find evidence of a reported shooting along Interstate Highway 80 in Pinole on Tuesday, a CHP spokesman said today.

CHP officers responded shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday to a reported shooting on westbound Highway 80 near Appian Way but were unable to find victims, shell casings or bullet holes, CHP Officer Jonathan Fransen said.

Despite a man reporting that he heard a possible gunshot and a person in a van brandishing a firearm next to him, investigators have yet to confirm that a shooting occurred, Fransen said.

There have been more than 30 shootings on East Bay highways in Alameda and Contra Costa counties since November. Nearly half of the shootings have occurred along Highway 80.
