Cops Release Photo Of Suspected Bank Robber At El Cerrito Safeway

If you recognize him, call the PD. Officials say he made off with several hundred thousand dollars.

Investigators are still looking for a man who stole several hundred thousand dollars from a bank branch inside a grocery store on Monday morning in El Cerrito, police said.

The suspect apparently presented a note to a teller at the U.S. Bank branch inside a Safeway at 10:38 a.m. Monday. In the note, the suspect demanded money and claimed to have a firearm, El Cerrito police Sgt. Ian Wong said.

No firearm was actually seen, he added. Police said the teller then filled several bags with cash, totaling several hundred thousand dollars, and handed it over to the suspect, who then fled.

Wong said he wasn’t certain why the bank branch had so much money on hand. Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect, who is described as black man standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing roughly 150 pounds.

Police have released a photo of the alleged suspect. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call El Cerrito police at (510) 215-4400.

There is an unspecified reward for providing information leading to the suspect’s arrest. He’s considered potentially armed and people should not attempt to contact or apprehend him themselves, police said.
