Deadly Crash Briefly Closes Carquinez Bridge

Two people were airlifted to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, according to the CHP.

BAY AREA — One person has died in a big-rig crash that occurred on the Carquinez Bridge Monday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The collision was reported at about 3:20 p.m. about mid-span where a dump truck, big-rig and another vehicle had collided it was initially reported.

CHP Officer David Harvey, however, said a collision occurred between an Isuzu utility truck and a Dodge Charger and no one was injured.

But after the drivers and only occupants exited their vehicles a big-rig broadsided the vehicles, pushing them into the two people.

Both drivers were critically injured and one person died, Harvey said.
