El Sobrante Library Closed Until Further Notice

The library was damaged by a fire earlier this week. Patrons are being directed to the Pinole and San Pablo branches.

EL SOBRANTE, CA — The El Sobrante Library will be closed until further notice due to fire damage.

A fire on Tuesday damaged parts of the roof and exterior. There is water damage in the staff area and smoke damage throughout the building. The book collection did not sustain fire or water damage, but it will take some time to assess the full extent of the damage and the impact on library services moving forward.

“We are sad to have to close the Library in El Sobrante and disrupt services to that community,” said County Librarian Melinda Cervantes. “It is important that we have time to evaluate all the equipment and materials and ensure the building is safe for staff and the public.”
