El Sobrante Library Damaged By Fire

The two alarm fire burned Tuesday night.

EL SOBRANTE, CA — A fire at a library in El Sobrante on Tuesday is being investigated as a possible arson, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District officials.

The fire was reported at 8:20 p.m. in the library at 4191 Appian Way. Firefighters extinguished the two-alarm blaze in about an hour and 20 minutes, according to Fire Capt. George Laing.

The blaze entered a concealed area under the roof that was completely combustible, Laing said. Fire crews were able to stop it before it burned the attic.

"If that had happened that would have been disaster for the library, but it was a good stop by our crews," he said.

Laing said there were no injuries reported, and that the fire district did not immediately have a damage estimate for the fire.
