Save Elementary School Music In Hercules!
Hercules has been the last city in WCCUSD to have music at the elementary level, and we will lose that this Fall if we don't take action now. The Hercules Music Boosters will host a meeting Tuesday night, May 3, at 7:00 PM in the Hercules High Music Room to talk about what we can do.

Music education benefits children far beyond the enjoyment it gives them. Music develops spatial intelligence and imagination. Music teaches them to discern between mediocre and good work. More than other elements of elementary education, music helps kids develop teamwork, self-expression, and self-confidence.

Elementary school students who study music get higher grades in high school and score higher on the SAT. Students with band and orchestra experience attend college at twice the rate of other students. Students with ensemble experience have far lower dropout rates. In every measurable way students who receive music education in elementary school do better than those who go without.
A 1997 Gallup Survey on Americans’ attitudes toward music revealed that 89% of respondents believe music helps a child’s overall development, and 93% believe that music is part of a well-rounded education. Budget issues we're all familiar with caused the WCCUSD to drop elementary level music two years ago, but Hercules continued to enjoy a part time music teacher for our elementary schools thanks to support from the city. That support is coming to an end, and we need to replace it somehow.
To help elementary parents organize to make their voices heard in during the budget process and possibly to raise money on their own to replace the funding from the City, the Hercules Music Boosters would like to host a meeting of elementary parents on Tuesday, May3, at 7:00 PM in the high school music room. Please join us!
